About
Thunderbird handles multiple accounts, unified inboxes, powerful filtering, OpenPGP encryption out of the box, and an integrated calendar (the old Lightning add-on is now built in). The Supernova redesign modernized the UI considerably, and Mozilla’s renewed investment shows in the release cadence. For IMAP-based email it’s hard to beat.
The pain point is Exchange: native Exchange/Microsoft 365 support has been in progress but historically required IMAP fallback or paid add-ons like Owl, and calendar invites from Outlook users can behave oddly. If your work life is deeply Microsoft 365 (shared mailboxes, Teams-linked calendars), test carefully before switching. For everything else, it just works.
