About
MuseScore 4 was a step change: redesigned engraving, the Muse Sounds orchestral library for genuinely good playback, and a modern UI. For composing, arranging, and producing sheet music, it now sits comfortably next to Sibelius and Dorico — and with Finale discontinued, it’s where many Finale users landed. Import of MusicXML is solid for migrating existing scores.
Power engravers will still find edge cases where manual adjustment fights the layout engine, and playback, while vastly improved, isn’t a DAW — complex mixing lives elsewhere. Large orchestral scores with Muse Sounds want plenty of RAM. Native MIDI input works but real-time entry is less refined than dedicated sequencers.
