About
Déjà Dup is backup reduced to its essence: choose folders, choose where (local drive, network share, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive), set a schedule, optionally encrypt. It’s preinstalled on Ubuntu and Fedora for a reason — the barrier to having any backup at all is nearly zero, and restoring integrates into the file manager.
The simplicity is the ceiling: retention and scheduling options are coarse, the duplicity backend historically meant slow full-backup cycles (a restic backend has been in transition — status varies by version), and verifying backups is more opaque than Borg-based tools. It is dramatically better than the no-backup status quo, and that’s its honest job.
