Audacious

Linux alternative to Winamp

Unrated from 0 reports

About

Audacious is the practical Winamp replacement: tiny footprint, plays everything including tracker formats and game music via plugins, and its Winamp Classic interface mode loads actual .wsz skins. Playlist-centric workflow, good plugin selection, and it starts instantly even on old hardware.

It’s a player, not a library manager — no rich database, smart playlists, or metadata tooling like Strawberry offers, and the GTK interface is plain. Development is steady but conservative; don’t expect streaming integrations or flashy features. For the specific itch of double-clicking a folder of MP3s and having it just play like it’s 2004, it’s exactly right.
