About
Audacity remains the fastest path from “record something” to “exported file” on Linux: multi-track recording, noise reduction, and a huge library of effects including VST3 support in recent versions. If your Windows habit was Audition for podcast editing or quick voiceover cleanup, this covers most of it for free.
It’s a destructive waveform editor at its core, not a DAW — no real-time effect monitoring the way Audition does it, and the UI still feels dated. Some users also haven’t forgiven the Muse Group telemetry controversy from 2021; if that bothers you, the Tenacity fork exists. Under Wayland it runs but can have quirks depending on the build.
