Jitsi Meet

Linux alternative to Zoom

About

Jitsi Meet does video calls with zero friction: open meet.jit.si (or a self-hosted instance), share the link, done — no accounts, no client installation, screen sharing and chat included. For organizations, self-hosting gives you Zoom-shaped functionality on infrastructure you control, which is why privacy-focused groups standardized on it.

Quality degrades faster than Zoom on large calls and weak networks — beyond 15-25 participants things get rough without serious server tuning, and mobile browser support pushes you to their app. There’s no Zoom-style ecosystem (webinars, registration, cloud recording without setup). For small-group calls and privacy-sensitive meetings it’s excellent; for 200-person webinars it’s the wrong tool.
