LocalSend

Linux alternative to Windows Nearby Sharing

Unrated from 0 reports

About

LocalSend sends files and text between any devices on the same network with zero setup: no accounts, no cloud, no cables, encrypted in transit via HTTPS. It replaces the Windows Nearby Sharing / SHAREit workflow and honestly beats both — the Android and iOS apps are solid, so getting phone footage onto your Linux machine takes seconds. Built with Flutter, so it looks and behaves identically everywhere.

Caveats are the inherent ones: both devices must be on the same LAN (guest Wi-Fi isolation and strict firewalls will silently break discovery — open port 53317 if it can’t find peers), and transfer speed is bound by your Wi-Fi, so multi-gigabyte video files may still favor a cable. No internet-based sending at all, by design.
