Mixxx

Linux alternative to VirtualDJ

About

Mixxx covers real DJ workflows: four decks, hot cues, loops, key detection, quantized sync, broadcast streaming to Icecast/Shoutcast, and mapping support for a long list of MIDI/HID controllers out of the box. Time-stretching and sync quality are solid, and vinyl control (DVS) with timecode records works. For house parties, internet radio, and club-adjacent use it’s genuinely capable.

Controller support is the make-or-break check: popular hardware is well mapped, niche gear may need community mappings or writing your own in JavaScript. There’s no ecosystem equivalent to Serato’s locked hardware integrations or streaming-service tie-ins (Beatport/Tidal in-app). Library management is decent but pickier DJs miss Rekordbox-style prep tooling.
