Pinta

Linux alternative to Paint.NET

About

Pinta exists precisely for people who miss Paint.NET: layers, a small set of adjustments and effects, drawing tools, and unlimited undo in an interface you already understand. It was ported to GTK4 in recent versions, which modernized the look and improved Wayland behavior. For cropping, annotating, quick color tweaks, and casual layer work, it’s the right-sized tool.

It’s intentionally limited — no advanced selections, limited plugin ecosystem compared to Paint.NET’s, and it can struggle with very large images. Anything beyond light editing sends you to GIMP or Krita. Development is steady but small-team, so feature requests move slowly.
