RustDesk

Linux alternative to TeamViewer

About

RustDesk gives you attended and unattended remote access with the TeamViewer workflow: an ID and password to share, file transfer, clipboard sync, and clients for every platform including mobile. The killer feature is self-hosting the rendezvous/relay server, removing both the third party and the ‘commercial use suspected’ nag that plagues TeamViewer’s free tier. Performance is genuinely good.

Using the public servers means trusting the project’s infrastructure (connections are end-to-end encrypted, but self-hosting is the point for the security-conscious). Wayland support works but with rough edges around unattended access on some distros — X11 sessions remain smoother to control. It’s also become a favorite tool of scammers, like TeamViewer before it, so never grant access to strangers.
